Initial Post

Hi, This is a a blog started initially as part of the John Thornhill Coaching Program. As I progress along my way, learning more about setting up my internet business I will be posting progress reports, useful information, product links, other useful links and at some point there will be some details of income earned!

I have tried several other plans for getting an online business going, and have been very disappointed so far… until I came across John Thornhill’s products. I have rushed through some previous information before hearing that the Coaching Program was coming out (limited places, now full - Late Jan, 2008… due to last 16 weeks, so should be a new intake around early to mid May, 2008) The coaching program is a step by step approach, which I would term programmed learning (but I’m not an expert!).

In the first week we just registered a domain name (with 1and1.com or .co.uk if you are a UK resident like myself), signed up for a hosting plan (d9hosting.com) and an email account (i.e. on the d9hosting account)

The second week (this week) is all about setting up a Blog (This blog is my version), with categories, links and some initial content - the first being this posting!

The pace is slow, which is OK for busy people or people who are very new to the online world, each step is gone through in a step by step video so you can watch John Thornhill as he enters each field - ideal for me, as even though I’m an experienced internet user I am hopeless at form filling! I can always find a way to misinterpret labels and instructions!

I am currently ‘between jobs’ as I prefer to call it (I want to stay positive, and ‘unemployed’ has too many negative connotations… besides which, I’m busy doing this Coaching course and other things…) So I’m trying to set up an internet based business: if I can earn anything approaching a living wage from it, then I can stop looking for a wage slave job that I don’t want, and work from home. I am an experienced IBM RPG Analyst/Programmer, but Cheshire, where I live doesn’t have many job openings for RPG programmer roles - so if I have to get another job, it may well mean moving house. I really don’t want to do that, as I have just got a social life going and really like the area (Nantwich)

The other thing I have started doing to keep busy during my ‘between jobs’ phase is to write a novel! This something I’ve thought of doing, and even started several times before, but never got beyond a few pages. As of yesterday (6th Feb, 2008) I had just passed 15,000 words. I’m using the 30 day novel method from the book, No Plot? No Problem!: A High-velocity, Low-stress Way to Write a Novel in 30 Days by Chris Baty, who is the founder of the National novel Writing Month website, where each year in November people do a month long novel writing exercise of writing a 50,000 word novel (first draft) What appealed to me was that you don’t need to have it all planned first, just come up with an idea - and you don’t (absolutely DO NOT) edit as you go along… you just keep typing/writing, going with the flow and racking up the words until the end of the month.

This being February, I started at the end of January, as it’s important to keep to a deadline, which should be the last day of the month. I decided to do it quite suddenly, as skipping ahead in Chris Baty’s book it mentioned National Novel Editing Month which happens in March… so I (somewhat characteristically!) decided to jump in and try and do both back to back (though it’s not recommended), at the same time as trying to set up my business on the internet too! However, I have a plan… I’m just not ready to reveal it yet!

I’ll bring this to a close now, as I should really continue with setting up the Blog itself!

Cheers for now,

Andy.
