Update Feb 20th - 61K words… finished?

OK! I’ve just passed 61,000 words, and I think it’s finished… for now!

I’m going to have a think overnight, and another look at it tomorrow before deciding, but I think I might have finished. Though I could do an epilogue chapter…

Of course, there’s Editing Month in a week or so (i.e. starting 1st of March), so that will mean plenty of re-writing, I expect and another 50+ hours of work on it. I reckon I’ve put in about 68 hours of writing, plus a few hours thinking time (mostly in bed at night!) It is a (very) rough first draft, and the characters are fairly wooden, the descriptive detail almost non-existent, and probably the continuity not so good - but at least I’ve written my first novel - hopefully not my last. Probably not destined to be a best seller though!

I don’t plan to show anyone excerpts - at least not until after I’ve done some editing! But I’ll see how I feel once I get around to re-reading it, maybe I’m being pessimistic.

They recommend that you leave it alone for a while before the editing phase… I think they suggest at least a month, but I’ve only got a week, so that’ll have to do!

Cheers,

Andy.
